Disney's Bug's Life

We watched VCD about insects: A Bug's Life. Ik Rika sent it from Surabaya for us to watch!
Thank you, Ik Rika! We love you!

Evan drew the above picture after watching the VCD. Cute, isn't it?

Evan and his Insect Lapbook

Evan loved to learn about spiders, and thought that spiders are insects. From browsing and reading actually he found that spiders are NOT insects. Yet still, he wanted to put the facts about spiders in his insects lapbook.

He said, just write down that SPIDERS ARE NOT INSECTS, Ma. :)

Insects

Most of insects are beetles.
Above are pictures of Evan's favorite beetles he found on the net.

The Victim

What a poor ant!
This one was attacked by six others in the ant farm. Look at the power of ants' jaws, three of its legs were pulled apart.
What a sad thing.

An Acrobatic Ant

An ant was showing its ability to move down the toothpick with its six legs.
An ant's skin is hard, the same kind materials as our fingernails.
It's blood is colorless.
They talk with their antennae.
Some species do not have eyes, they rely on their antennae to guide their ways.

Clay and Ant Farm

Clay was taking care of the ants. They were fighting over an ant. Trying to stop with a toothpick. For no reason, they attacked this specific one.
Actually this is the last ant that we put it the jar. But why? It was the same kind of species...

Clay's opinion:
It must have had a different smell with others, that's why the others attack..
Maybe it's like come from different village or something.. :)

Meal Time!

Now it's time for enjoying the meal!
Clay loved to have beef sausages on his rectangle plain bread. Evan spread a lot of garlic bread on his triangle bread.

Yummy.. yummy...

Our Little Chefs

Hmm, take a look on the picture above..

They were busy cutting the bread according to their own preferred shapes.
Clay cut it into rectangles whereas Evan cut it into triangles.
A small, trivial things, but for me it is a matter of letting them practice expressing their decisions.

I just watch them from a distance, not even helping a little bit. Just stand there and watch if any help need. They could do everything by themselves. I was just being a hungry photographer. :)

Oh, what a yummy garlic butter !

Here's the picture of our hand-made garlic butter!

Stir...Stir... Stir...

Evan was busy stirring the mixture, at the end, it separated the liquid. We poured out the liquid, and... taraaaa.. we have a wonderful garlic butter!

The Pure Butter

Here's the results after 15 minutes. A thick cream turned into stiff cream. Later we mixed it with a pinch of salt, crushed fresh garlic and dried basil leaves.

Hmm.. smells good....

Butter Making

Clay is shaking a bottle filled with cream milk.

Since we are learning about phonic 'C' Cow with our My Father's World curriculum, we know that cow gives us a lot of benefit.
Cows give us meat.
Cows give us milk.
Cows give us butter.
Cows give us yoghurt.

Related to our breakfast schedule that we wanted to make garlic bread--which need butter in the recipe, we decided to make butter by ourselves.

Here's the link we found on the net to make butter from cow's cream milk:
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Butter-and-Buttermilk/
http://www.webexhibits.org/butter/doityourself.html

It was so easy and enjoyable. We just take turns in shaking the bottle for about 15 minutes, we danced around the living room, giggled together.

Learning about Days of the Week

Evan is learning about names of days. Sunday.. Monday..
Then an idea came to mind to mix it with organizing home as well.
I gave the boys a recipe book for kids, and let them decide which breakfast they want to have during a week.
Then we did the shopping together, buying the things needed for cooking.
For that week, I was free indeed for not thinking what to have for our breakfast. They did it!
What a life!
